Etymology : The Gurjaras are variously seen as a foreign people gradually assimilated into Indian society, or as the local people who belonged to the land called Gurjara, or as being a tribal group. The Pratiharas, who derived their name from the word pratihara (Sanskrit: “doorkeeper”) are seen as a tribal group or a clan of the Gurjaras. In the epic Ramayana, Prince Lakshmana acted once as a doorkeeper to his elder brother King Rama. Since Lakshmana was regarded as their ancestor, the Pratiharas adopted this title. Did you know? The geographical name of Gujarat is derived from Gurjara. Origin:   Harichandra is said to have laid the foundation of this dynasty in the 6th century C.E. He created a small kingdom at Bhinmal near about 550 C.E. after the fall of Gupta Empire, generally with feudatory status.  The Pala Dynasty  The Pala Empire was a major dynasty in North India , especially in the North East India, Bengal during 750 - 1161 CE the post-classical period of Indian Sub Continent. It was founded by a Gopala , by winning the tussle of power between the local chieftain. They were followers of the Mahayana and Tantric schools of Buddhism. The empire was founded with the election of Gopala as the emperor of Gauda in 750 CE.  Chalukya Dynasty Rise of the Chalukya dynasty The Chalukya dynasty was a Classical Indian dynasty that ruled large parts of southern and central India between the 6th and the 12th centuries. Pulakeshin I, a chieftain of Pattadakal, took and strengthened the hill fort of Vatapi and seized control of the territory between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers and the Western Ghats. His son Kirtivarman I secured the Konkan coast and coastal regions near Vengi. At its peak, the empire stretched from the Kaveri in the south to the Narmada in the north. Pallava Dynasty                                                The Pallava Dynasty rose to Prominence in South India from early 4th century to Late 9th century. The Magadha region is presently located in Bihar, India. They maintained their dominance over the northern and certain parts of central and western India.
